BEAUTY

I see the beauty

In the melting snow

Grey around the edges

Exposing the untidiness

Left behind

The rock on the beach

Plain in comparison

With the marbled and bright

Neighbors around

The bush in the shade

Of the big one with flowers

Drab with quiet leaves

Unassuming in its place

The kitten in the litter

Who sits quiet and watches

While the others play

And offer their bright lives to me

I think I’ll take that one over there

Dandelions in the grass

Clover with bumblebees wrestling

With them for some honey

They’re weeds in the neighbors lawn

He doesn’t understand

The blueberry bush that

Didn’t get the note about

Flowers and fruit

Happy to be with those that did

Buddies from the nursery

The creek that dries up in the summer

No frogs or fish darting around

Just sitting waiting for the rain

I let the lawn grow last year

To see what might be there

Cute little asters tiny cedars

Wild strawberries graceful grasses

Of many different kinds

Even a thistle my favorite

Wafting seeds in late summer

I bring some of these beauties

Back home to be safe and close

I culture and feed my wild weeds

And visit my dry stream in the woods

After it rains
