GREY DAWN
A steel grey flinty dawn
Greets me with
The same promise as
The golden dawn
Of yesterday
Yet I turn away
And look inward
To the troublesome
Face of life
Why so
The somber smile
Of today’s dawn
Holds the same
Promise as every other
I set my day only once
How many times
When the mist
Of morning lifts
And sun burns through
The torpor of
Early mornings sleep
Do I regret the choice
I made just hours ago
To dwell inside my
Home and mind
It’s too late I say
And watch the puff
Of the first sunny breeze
Flit by with time
I could have had
Too much effort
It’s not effort though
But choice
Think of the sunny morn
That turns to drizzle
Then rain
It seems fresh somehow still
The day was set
By the same watchmaker
I wake up with
Every day
