HUNTER’S MOON

My pack grows heavier

With each step

Dog looks brightly

In the direction

Of our dwelling and kind

We have done well

They will welcome us

With pride and appreciation

As we pass the fur and hide

To the elders for blessing

And thanks to our brother

Animals that provide for us

And cover us in the

Cold times to come

My thoughts turn to

The bright moon

She guided me against

False step as I stalked

While others slept

She guided me again

On my return

I kept her on my other side

As the elders had taught me

As I came of age

We are old friends now

I smile at her pushing

Puffy clouds across the sky

She smiles back at

Me and dog on our

Long walk back

You can rest now I say

We will dream of

Each other until this time

Comes again after the

Warm time when life returns

And the world is renewed

Your kind also visit between

Now and then

They are different

I always know when it’s you
